Took our 2 golden retriever there for a last minute doggie day camp as we were going to Mackinaw Island for the day. Initially we were thrilled that someone would take out unneutered males last minute. The conditions were far from border line acceptable. The place was dirty, several dogs lo ked in cages and we noticed no water in any of the kennels. The dog run was extremely small and overgrown. We were only going to be gone a few hours and decided to risk it if she was going to let them outside.
We are from the Detroit area and if we are back in the area again with the dogs we will never take them there. She should not be running a dog kennel/day camp.
On a side note her quilt/fabric shop looked very nice and well taken care of.
I know nothing about the kennel side of this place, but Georgia Bee's quilt shop is wonderful! Small but good, lots of selection and several shelves of sale fabric.
Once showing up we thought the place was not the best place but we were in a jam and gave it the benefit of the doubt.
When doing a search for "quilt shops" on Google Maps, Sunrise Kennels comes up and it's not a mistake. There is a sign along US 2 at the corner of Old Portage trail that says QUILT SHOP---> and just turn there! Go north and a tad east and it's there, about one mile from 2.
We made a reservation to board our dog on a Friday but when we arived at noon there was only a sign stating they would not be open today. When I got the attention of someone in the house she stated they had an illness on Wednesday so they were not boarding this weekend. Emergencies happen but that was two days earlier so this business has no plans if something goes wrong. We even called to confirm and left number to call if there were any issues. Do not count on them if you don't have your own backup plan.
When we got back she was just about to put then out. We had to go get the dogs ourselves and it was obvious that she just locked them up and never let them out not even once..
She was exceptionally friendly and helpful, even with us just showing up last minute without warning. Our dog seems to have enjoyed his time! Would recommend to anyone.
This lady fit me in, short notice and was very accommodating. I loved how she let me set everything up in the kennel for my dogs. So I knew they were all set up and had food and water. She let me pick up whenever I wanted. It wasn't the cleanest of kennels but it was ok. I was happy overall.
